A brief description of how the institution ensures compliance with sustainable building operation and maintenance guidelines and policies:
As part of its Sustainability Policy, Sustainability Procedures, and IECMP Master Plan, Sheridan College is committed to sustainability, including building operations and maintenance. This comprises campus-wide control and metering, building efficiency retrofits, upgraded and expanded heating and cooling distribution, solar PV applications and future on-site heat and power generation. Sheridan employs the use of building automation systems for scheduling equipment on/off times, lighting times, as well as occupancy sensors in new and existing buildings.
Recent maintenance implementations include campus wide building envelope air leakage assessment and improvements conducted by CanAm. This will include the replacement of door and window issues, sealants, caulking repairs, and other upgrades, to achieve better energy performance on all three campuses.
Sheridan’s purchasing policy ensures and integrates sustainability into its decision-making process by utilizing a point grading process that provides points for companies based on the sustainable features of their products and services.
