A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting:
An estimation of alternative transportation for Faculty & Staff was conducted utilizing the following data:
Fac/Staff occupy roughly 230 leaseholds in Sewanee. Of these, roughly 40% utilize alternative transportation for work. As the campus and community are one, as well as small, this is seen as a conservative estimate. This also does not include those that live directly outside of the Sewanee line, who also commute via walking or biking. Nor does it factor in residences on campus with more than one Sewanee employee in them (eg. husband and wife are both professors, or one is faculty and one is staff, etc)
230*.4=92
92/ 726=13%

Leaned on previous submission data as well as some HR data and some anecdotal data re: how many electric cars fac/staff own (they inquire at our office as to the plugins on campus) and who has permanently transitioned to telework.
