1,645

Program name (1st program):
Environmental Residents

Number of students served by the program to whom peer-to-peer sustainability outreach and education is offered (1st program):
1,466

A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities (1st program):

The Environmental Residents are volunteer student leaders in dormitories. Their primary responsibilities include educating students in their area about environmental issues, acting to encourage sustainable living, and coordinating their building’s recycling program. They also plan and execute sustainability programs in the residence halls.

A brief description of how the student educators are selected (1st program):

The Environmental Residents currently volunteer to be the leader in their dorm. This model, however, is being reworked so that ERs must apply in the Spring to serve as an ER in the fall. As part of this process, they will complete an application and be interviewed by a member of the OESS staff.

A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive (1st program):

The Environmental Residents used to receive a weekend long retreat of training and idea-making. With the program currently in a state of change, the ERs did not receive as substantial of a training session this year. The plan for next year is to hold a similar educational retreat for incoming ERs.

A brief description of the staff and/or other financial support the institution provides to the program (1st program):

The Environmental Residents are supported through funds designated by the Allocated Funds Committee (AFC). They are led by staff members in the OESS.
