Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Nelson Nest Lab
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Selkirk College was a convening partner of the Nelson Nest Lab, a social innovation lab aimed at bringing together diverse stakeholders to collaborate on community climate action. Community members were brought together to explore local issues and prioritize solutions through a series of workshops. They selected challenges to tackle and designed and tested solutions. Projects have inspired our community to work together on local solutions to climate change.
Projects included bringing Low Speed Electric Vehicles to the community's carshare fleet, using small-scale hydrokinetic turbines to deliver safe, local clean energy solutions, development programs to engagement local businesses in climate solutions, and developing a low impact transportation map to help everyone see how they can get around while reducing their impact.
The Nelson Nest Lab is currently on pause, but hopes to carry out a third iteration when funding and capacity comes available.
