There are six rain gardens, one green roof and one rain water cistern on campus. There are also bioswales on campus and landscaping practices include a combination of native and other plants to create shade and to tolerate drought.

--The City of Seattle mandates the use of low-impact development practices through its Stormwater Municipal Code (Title 22, Subtitle VIII), which requires stormwater discharge be appropriately managed on parcel-based projects through soil amendment, on-site stormwater management, flow control, and water quality treatment. All buildings on Seattle University’s campus comply with these stringent codes, with most featuring stormwater retention tanks or detention features such as rain gardens. Furthermore, Seattle University has made a commitment to building all future buildings and major renovations to LEED Gold standards, with five LEED Gold-certified buildings constructed on campus since 2009. In order to meet LEED Gold standards, buildings are constructed and managed according to low-impact development prerequisites and credits, including performing a site assessment, preventing water pollution from construction activity, and managing runoff on-site.
