A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty:
Seattle University encourages and provides funding for all graduate/law students - as well as current faculty - to become part of the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD).
NCFDD's services/programs include:
*Weekly emails encouraging faculty to think about specific aspects of their professional lives, especially on research productivity and overcoming challenges to that productivity ("Monday Motivators").
*Monthly teleworkshops on a range of topics.
*Monthly guest expert workshops.
*Access to a private discussion forum.
*Monthly mentor matches.
*Moderated monthly writing challenges (to help faculty accelerate their progress with a particular project).
The Wismer Office for Faculty Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Excellence:
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are guiding principles that inform all aspects of faculty development across the career span at Seattle University. SU is an equal opportunity employer that strongly encourages applicants from underrepresented groups to apply for all open faculty positions. The mission of the Wismer Office for Faculty Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Excellence is to infuse faculty development support and programming with attention to the needs, perspectives, and contributions of members of underrepresented groups.
The Wismer office:
-Works to improve the environment for current and future underrepresented faculty. The Wismer Office works with chairs and hiring committees on recruitment/hiring processes. In collaborations with Human Resources, The Wismer Office advises on best hiring practices and serves as a resource to hiring departments to build a broad and diverse candidate pool leading to the best hire.
-Collaborates with other offices on diversity-related initiatives and serves as a general resource to the campus regarding climate-enhancing efforts for future and current faculty.
-Contributes to efforts within Academic Affairs or the University to gather climate data that inform academic policies, programs, and priorities.
-Coordinates faculty diversity and inclusion initiatives within Academic Affairs.
-Offers confidential consultations, conversation groups, and advocacy for diversity and equity.
-Provides workshops and support for faculty, department chairs, and deans on inclusive working environments
