A brief description of the programs sponsored by the institution to support underrepresented groups within the student body:
Scripps Communities of Resources and Empowerment is an office committed to enhancing and supporting diversity. The office houses different underrepresented groups and organizations such as: Asian American Student Union; Wanawake Weusi, an organization that seeks to support women of African descent in endeavors of educational, cultural, personal, or spiritual growth; Cafe con leche, a student run group that provides a forum for the discussion of social, political and economic issues that affect women, particularly those of Latina descent; and Family, a queer-straight alliance. Scripps also has a First Generation College Student support group and program where first-years are invited to early orientation. The first generation college students are introduced to some faculty members, staff, facilities before the official orientation in order to ease the transition to college. Throughout the academic year, the coordinators of the First Generation College Student program keep in touch with the students to help them with academic, social, and personal endeavors.
