A brief description of the formal sustainability course designation program:
Santa Clara University requires undergraduate students to complete a Pathway, a cluster of three to four interdisciplinary courses with a common theme. One of the Pathways the University offers is Sustainability. The Sustainability Pathway strives to help students integrate the interconnected ideals of viable ecological integrity, viable economies, and equity and justice.
Courses that fulfill a Pathway requirement are labeled with the appropriate pathway designation on the University's course availability webpage, CourseAvail. A course that lies within the Sustainability Pathway is designated as "Sustainability (Pathway)."
For a course to be approved for inclusion in the Sustainability Pathway, the syllabus must be reviewed by the Sustainability Pathway Facilitator in conjunction with the overall Pathway Faculty Core Committee as needed, who make subsequent recommendations regarding its appropriate classification. Currently, 28 departments offer Sustainability Pathway-designated courses.
