Residence Life Sustainability Liaison Program

A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
Community Facilitators (CF) and Neighborhood Representatives (NR) engage their residents in sustainable behaviors, create sustainability-themed programs, and facilitate campus-wide residence hall initiatives including the Energy Challenge, Swap for Good, and waste diversion during move-out. A Residence Life Sustainability Liaison is designated for every Residential Learning Community, and they are responsible for engaging their residents and peer Residence Life staff. The program is led by the Sustainability Intern for Residence Life, with staff support from the Center for Sustainability and Office of Residence Life. Residence Life liaisons meet monthly with the Center for Sustainability to receive training and up-to-date information about sustainability initiatives on campus.

A brief description of the student educators program’s target audience (1st program):
The target audience of this program are all the students that are living in the residence halls on-campus, through Residence Life Liaisons who engage them in sustainable behaviors as early as their first year. Besides the annual initiatives mentioned above, Residence Life Liaisons organize other events and programs which encompass different aspects of sustainability (nature, social, economics, and well-being), inviting guest speakers, volunteering outdoors, hiking, and even teaching residents how to cook sustainably.

SEEDS (Student Employees Engaging in Discussions for Sustainability)

A brief description of the student educators program (2nd program):
SEEDS (Student Employees Engaging in Discussions for Sustainability) is the Student Employee Sustainability Liaison program which empowers SCU student employees to implement the University's Strategic Plan by fostering Justice and Sustainability programs among University departments and organizations. Liaisons model and engage their peers in sustainable behaviors in order to develop a culture of sustainability within their campus workplace at SCU. The program is led by the Sustainability Intern for Employee Engagement, with staff support from the Center for Sustainability and collaborative support from the students' respective departments. These liaisons meet with Center for Sustainability staff monthly, to learn about sustainability issues, community-based social marketing, and behavior-change theory in order to educate and empower their peers, friends, and colleagues.

Sustainability Guides

A brief description of the student educators program (3rd program):
Sustainability Guides is a program that enables individuals who desire to have campus sustainability knowledge become trained to serve as hotspots of information for students, faculty, and staff.
Requirements:
1. Share your sustainability knowledge when asked
2. Earn at least one sustainability badge per quarter
3. Attend at least one Center for Sustainability event per quarter
4. Read our monthly info emails

Training and resources for Sustainability Guides will focus on how to contribute to sustainable operations of the campus. Faculty, staff, or student employees who wish to learn more about sustainability beyond SCU and serve as a peer educator while integrating sustainability in their workplace are encouraged to become Sustainability Liaisons.

A Sustainability Guide answers SCU sustainability questions from any campus community members and promotes sustainability events.
