Does the institution advocate for public policies that support campus sustainability or that otherwise advance sustainability at the municipal/local level?:
Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level, including the issues, legislation, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:

During the 2016 election season, the University took a firm stance in support of the Santa Clara County balloted Measure B, an initiative to renovate transportation systems across the county including expanding sustainable public transportation options near campus. Support for the measure came from students and administration alike, with the University's Associated Student Government being the main proponent. Several events on campus leading up to the November 2016 election, including an ice cream social with San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo and student-managed flyer distributions the day before the election, encouraged student civic engagement with their local government.

Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the state/provincial/regional level, including the issues, legislation, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:

Since 2012, the University's President, Father Michael Engh S.J., has written several op-ed articles in response to purposed cuts to Cal Grant financing for students from low-income families. These pieces appeared in the San Jose Mercury News and LA Times papers, arguing that reductions in the funding for these programs will severely damage the education opportunities for the affected students. President Engh spoke for the Santa Clara University community in showing our support for students from low-income families who wish to attend universities within California.
