SF State's Division of Equity & Community Inclusion was launched in 2017. The division will be responsible to lead, coordinate, implement and evaluate a broad range of sustained programs, initiatives, events and activities designed to: -facilitate intercultural/intergroup dialogue, -promote equity and inclusion, -advance social justice, and -improve campus climate for all of our students. Units that initially will comprise this new division include: -Office of Diversity & Student Equity -Black Unity Center -Dream Resource Center -AAPI Student Services https://equity.sfsu.edu/ The Richard Oakes Multicultural Center promotes a multi-ethnic, culturally conscious University. The Richard Oakes Multicultural Center is a space for cultural events and discussions that focus on everything from inspirational leaders to commemorative months. The Center also provides a collaborative and supportive environment that promotes a multi-ethnic, culturally conscious university that affirms the human and intellectual heritage of all people.The Center encourages and welcomes all members of the University and greater community to initiate or participate in its student focused and directed programs and activities. http://asi.sfsu.edu/programs/romc SF State also formed a President’s Advisory Board  on Gender Equity & Title IX (Board) consisting of faculty, students, and campus officials to identify strategies for developing plans and strategies to promote a campus environment free of gender‐based discrimination and to support the primary prevention of sexual violence. http://titleix.sfsu.edu/sites/default/files/2014-15AnnualReport.pdf At SF State diversity issues are deeply woven into the fabric of campus, so while we do not have a campus-wide diversity office, various departments guide the campus on diversity policies, programs, and training. Although SF State is a majority non-white campus we still recruit to increase diversity. In terms of curriculum we have one of the only university Colleges of Ethnic Studies, and we have a American Ethnic and Racial Minorities general education requirement that all undergraduates are required to meet in order to graduate. In terms of support programs for at-risk students we have a support program for undocumented students with a dedicated administrator as the coordinator (Norma Salcedo, AB 540 Dream Coordinator, Dean of Students Office) and a Pride program for LGBTQ students.

SF State's Division of Equity and Community Inclusion is currently working on its first campus climate assessment and will develop new training materials and promote cross-campus dialogue according to its results. A sample of self-training materials is available here: https://equity.sfsu.edu/resources. To support the work of the new Division of Equity & Community Inclusion, an Ad Hoc Work Group was convened to develop an educational outreach plan for promoting equity, advancing social justice and improving campus climate. This plan will be implemented during academic year 2017-18 and reach students, faculty and staff through a variety of mediums and venues. SF State's Faculty receives cultural competence training from the Center for Equity and Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CEETL) during new faculty orientation. The CEETL is the heart of the university’s commitment to a culture that values and rewards teaching, supports diversity among learners, and promotes learning environments that foster social justice and the respectful and vigorous exchange of ideas in which students and faculty thrive and succeed. https://facaffairs.sfsu.edu/new-faculty-orientation. The orientation also focuses on supporting students with all levels of abilities, using Universal Design for Learning principles to help all students succeed, The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management has a primary emphasis on providing training. They conducted 33 in person trainings reaching 1,250 individuals. The training and workshop sessions can be accessed here: http://titleix.sfsu.edu/Materials. Educational and outreach efforts also include sending Gender Equity & Title IX/VAWA notices to the campus at the beginning of the Fall semester. This notice asks for the campus’s assistance and support with cultivating a working and learning environment reflective of SF State’s core beliefs in social justice, and provides links to available on and off campus resources, contact information of key Title IX personnel, and other vital information. The notices can be found here: http://titleix.sfsu.edu/content/mandated‐notices.   At the beginning of the academic year, SF State provided online training for all first‐time incoming students through "Campus Clarity". Students were informed of the consequences should they fail to complete the training by deadline, which includes a Dean of Student’s Hold being placed on their student record until such time that the federally required task is completed. At SF State, this process has been highly effective resulting in a 98.4% completion rate before the beginning of the Spring 2015 semester.   http://titleix.sfsu.edu/sites/default/files/2014-15AnnualReport.pdf In order to graduate, students are required to take at least one course designated as a "Social Justice" course under the SF State Studies program. Social Justice is one of four areas that the campus feels are important to graduates of the university. http://bulletin.sfsu.edu/undergraduate-education/sf-state-studies/ SF BUILD (Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity) is a project funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for Enhancing the Diversity of the NIH-funded Workforce. SF BUILD is led by San Francisco State University in partnership with University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Its mission is to enhance diversity of the biomedical research workforce by transforming the teaching and research environments at SF State. We create engaging and supportive spaces where students and faculty can safely represent different backgrounds and perspectives. Additionally, in partnership with UCSF, students and faculty receive training and mentoring to make significant contributions to biomedical research by asking innovative questions that are relevant to local communities. https://sfbuild.sfsu.edu/about-build All students, faculty, and staff are informed of the campus Strategic Plan, which lists equity as one of SF State's pillars.
