A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:

San Francisco State University's 142 acre main campus is located in a mostly residential area withing a large urban city. From the Campus Master Plan: One of SF State's great draws is its location in San Francisco, with access to the cultural richness and natural beauty of the Bay Area. SF State is the City's only public 4-year undergraduate institution. Located in the southwest corner of the city, the campus sits along 19th Avenue (State Route 1), the major north-south connector between interstate 280 and Highway 101. The campus is bordered to the east by 19th Avenue and the Lakeside residential area; to the south by the Parkmerced residential development; to the north by the Stonestown Galleria shopping center; and to the west by Lake Merced Boulevard and, beyond it, the lake and its associated open spaces, including Harding Park Golf Course, Fort Funston, and the San Francisco Zoo.

We have three satellite campuses: a leased space in downtown San Francisco, the Sierra Nevada Field Campus, and the Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies. It houses the Rosenberg Institute for Marine Biology & Environmental Science, which sponsors public engagement events at RTC. We are not including the leased space at the downtown center for building and utility data in STARS but we are including the Romberg Tiburon Center and the Sierra Nevada Field Campus.

Which of the following features are present on campus and which are included within the institutional boundary?:
Present? Included?
Agricultural school No No
Medical school No No
Other professional school with labs and clinics (e.g. dental, nursing, pharmacy, public health, veterinary) No No
Satellite campus Yes Yes
Farm larger than 5 acres or 2 hectares No No
Agricultural experiment station larger than 5 acres or 2 hectares No No
Hospital No No

The rationale for excluding any features that are present from the institutional boundary:

San Francisco State's leased space in downtown San Francisco is not included in calculations of energy use, water use, and waste.
