RecyleMania
A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged:
RecycleMania is a national, annual tournament among U.S. universities and colleges to see which schools are the best at reducing their waste and recycling. SDSU has engaged students, faculty, and staff in the tournament by hosting weekly events on campus for creative reuse of material, updating landfill/recycling signage on the bins, marketing the campus recycling guidelines across campus, playing a trash sorting game with campus individuals, organizing giveaways of sustainable materials (utensils, reusable bottles, etc.), and posting waste reduction and recycling tips on social media. By participating in RecycleMania, SDSU hopes to improve waste awareness on campus and ultimately reach its goal of zero-waste.

RecycleMania's overall 2019 Impact:
69.5 million pounds of waste recycled and composted.
300 million single‐use plastic containers removed from the waste stream.
Prevented release of 99,254 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCO2E) in‐
to the atmosphere, equivalent to preventing annual emissions from 20,895 cars!
RecycleMania 2019 engaged 5.1 million students, faculty and staff at 300 U.S. and Canadian campuses.
