Salve Regina strives to create and foster a community that is diverse, well-rounded and inspired to change the world. The OCHRE scholarship program is an important contributor to this effort by providing students with the opportunity to continue making a difference after high school.

These scholarships take their name from Ochre Court, the historic building donated to the Sisters of Mercy to house a university that would make social justice a core component of its educational mission. The goal of these awards is to expand diversity, inclusion, and multiculturalism on campus by making a Salve Regina education affordable for qualified students.

Students who are chosen for the OCHRE scholarship receive a generous grant with the opportunity to be considered for additional need-based scholarships, some covering up to full tuition. Recipients also have access to leadership development workshops through the Office of Multicultural Programs and Retention, as well as the student organizations, community service opportunities, and support that are available to all Salve Regina students.

A brief description of the institution’s programs designed specifically to support students, academic staff, and/or non-academic staff from underrepresented groups:

The Black Student Union is a proactive organization that focuses on the black experience both on and off campus. They seek to create awareness for issues that plague our communities and to bring inclusion on campus. They aim to bring light to one of the five critical concerns of mercy - race - and in doing so follow the mercy tradition of loving one another. They are a safe space, welcoming all to come as they are.

Alliance provides a safe place for LGBTQ students and allies to support each other, partake in social activities and create a platform for activism. They also provide support and a voice for those students that identify in the LGBTQ community or as an ally.

The Hispanic and Latinx Student Organization is a voice for the Hispanic/Latinx community on campus. They strive to educate the community about Hispanic/Latinx culture and discuss topics that affect the Hispanic/Latinx community politically, socially and culturally in the United States and throughout Latin America. As Salve Regina's mission statement states, the Hispanic and Latinx Student Organization aspires to encourage students to work for a world that is harmonious, just and merciful both locally and overseas.

The Multicultural Student Organization strives to raise awareness about different cultures on campus. They host multiple events throughout the year in honor of these cultures in order to further educate students and faculty.

"I Believe I Can" Mentorship Program from the Office of Multicultural Programs:
Offered to first-year students, a mentorship program that helps to guide students through their transition to the Salve Regina community. Participants have the opportunity to meet successful student leaders who can provide them with social and academic mentorship and guidance.

Living Learning Community:
Students live in an inclusive community dedicated to promoting the understanding of difference, celebrating diversity, and purposefully sharing unique experiences with the rest of the campus community. Residents participate in structured, educational discussions and enjoy exclusive programming specifically designed to engage their individual interests. By connecting educational and residential environments, students interact with faculty, staff, and other students in a practical learning environment outside of the traditional classroom context.

Salve Regina's intercultural competence development program offers professional development and leadership opportunities that allow students, faculty and staff to deepen their cultural understanding and communication. Through this program, we seek to build a common language and culture, develop core skills and assess the impact of our efforts to create a more inclusive and welcoming campus community.
