The Environmental Council will support campus activities and programs that work towards the College's environmental goals. This means fostering an environmentally sustainable campus culture. We will strive towards collaboration among members of the Saint Michael's College community and with residents and institutions in the neighboring towns and cities, with the State of Vermont, and with environmentally oriented institutions elsewhere in the world.
Council objectives:
-Recommending policies and processes appropriate to an institution in which environmental responsibility is a top priority.
-Supporting specific projects that enhance environmental protection.
-Encouraging programs that increase environmental consciousness and literacy among the members of the college and broader communities.
-Communicating Saint Michael's College’s environmental successes and challenges.
-Ensuring the continuity of the environmental movement at Saint Michael’s College

A brief description of each sustainability office:
People can make a positive difference in this world. This is the underlying principle that guides the Office of Sustainability at Saint Michael’s College. At Saint Michael’s College, sustainability encompasses more than just the typical “green” operational initiatives. Its reach extends across all disciplines and areas of the College and includes everything from what we consume to the rich and diverse culture in which we live. The Office is committed to strengthening our campus’s obligation to a socially and ecologically responsible world by connecting students, staff and faculty with opportunities to create a sustainable future. In utilizing the campus as a living laboratory for sustainability, the Office seeks to provide students with the necessary knowledge, values, skills and confidence for being change makers in the 21st century.

The Director of Sustainability's position was created with the intention to help bridge the various sustainability initiatives/programs occurring across the institution. The Director facilitates the development of strategies for incorporating environmental sustainability into the academic, residential and operational activities of Saint Michael's College and works to align activities across all sectors.
