A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:
Eco-Rep Change Agents help increase student, staff, and faculty awareness, engagement and involvement in important environmental issues through Residence Hall programming, social activities, public events, and various educational programs.
Student employees:
• Plan 2-3 events, projects, trips and campaigns each semester related to sustainability (zero-waste, energy efficiency/conservation, food and agriculture related, sustainable transportation, etc)
• Work with Resident Assistants to create competitions or programs related to sustainability in the Residence Halls (for example, energy challenges, how to be sustainable while living on campus, etc…)
A brief description of how the student educators are selected:
Students must apply (resume and cover letter) to be an Eco-Rep Change Agent. Selected students are then interviewed and offered the position if it seems like a good fit.
A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:
Student employees meet weekly with the Director of Sustainability to collaborate on programs/tasks. These meetings consist of training that the students need based on their particular focus and changes from week to week. The Director of Sustainability focuses on supporting each student as they develop to become leaders and educators.
A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or faculty/staff coordination):
Students are paid $10-$12 per hour (roughly 6-7 hrs/week) based on their level of experience and associated responsibilities. The students are supported by funds and staffing from the Director of Sustainability and her office.
If reporting students served by additional peer-to-peer programs, provide:
