A brief description of the assessment(s):

The purpose of the Survey is to determine the representation of aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, racially visible people and women (the designated groups) in the University’s workforce. The University is required to survey its employees under the Federal Contractors Program. It is allowed to collect this information for employment equity purposes under the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act. The Survey has been reviewed at the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission.

A brief description of how the results of the assessment(s) are used in shaping policy, programs, and initiatives:

Saint  Mary’s  University now has an EE Plan that  has set  short and long term numerical  and non­ numerical goals  to achieve a  fair and representative workforce. We will monitor this Plan to ensure the level of commitment towards employment equity continues to be demonstrated by management.  Since the initial compliance review in 1997, the following positive policies have been put in place to help make our organization a better workplace for all employees:
· Policy on Prevention and Resolution of Harassment & Discrimination
· Violence in the Workplace: Prevention and Response
