A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
In September 2011, the Saint Mary's University Sustainability team designed a society engagement program that is intended to promote sustainable programming at non-environmental society events. To access a larger audience of students, the university has developed a support program that assists societies with their non-environmental events if they create a sustainable event or promote a sustainable initiative. To date - there have been 3 submissions where events have received a small funding grant and in return the society has committed to promote the Sustainability at Saint Mary's initiatives or ensure their event is green. One event to date - ordered a local food menu, sponsored by Bullfrog Power (green power company). Another event conducted a presentation on Sustainability programs and promoted the volunteer program and newsletter subscription programs. The third event to date promotes proper recycling around campus.
