A brief description of the institution's initiatives to shift individual attitudes and practices in regard to energy efficiency:

Saint Mary's is implementing a number of initiatives to shift behavior and practices regarding energy efficiency including but not limited to: signage to turn off lights and monitors, messaging and outreach requesting campus user to turn down their thermostat at the end of the day and during holidays, working with key personnel (food service providers, etc) to ensure energy efficiency measures are being implemented, etc.

A brief description of energy use standards and controls employed by the institution:

SMC utilizes a software program to control temperatures and run times in approximately 95% of the campus.

For the buildings where central control is possible, the managed temperature is kept at the following:
Cooling Season - Occupied Set Points 74-78F
Unoccupied Set Point 85F
Heating Season - Occupied Set Points 68-72F
Unoccupied Set Point 55F

A brief description of Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting and other energy-efficient lighting strategies employed by the institution:

SMC has an exciting projected underway to replace ALL outdoor lighting with LED lighting as well as all classroom buildings. This project is being completed in collaboration with Constellation Energy and Ameresco.

A brief description of passive solar heating, geothermal systems, and related strategies employed by the institution:

SMC is currently exploring thermal solar heating for our pool.

A brief description of co-generation employed by the institution:

None.

A brief description of the institution's initiatives to replace energy-consuming appliances, equipment, and systems with high efficiency alternatives:

SMC is currently exploring opportunities with our energy providers, PG&E, Constellation & MCE, for building recommissioning and/or retrofit programs.
