SLUstainability: Electronics and Appliances Recycling Drive
In an effort to promote Earth Day awareness, the Departments of Athletics, Facilities Services, and Midwest Recycling Center held an electronics and appliance recycling drive for the university community. Midwest Recycling is a level 4 certified e-cycling business registered by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. With their help SLU diverted from landfills 12,350 pounds of unwanted items. Comprehensive information regarding Midwest Recycling Center’s facilities can be found in the U.S. EPA Facility Registry System (FRS), a central database that identifies facilities, sites, or places subject to environmental regulations.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign(s):
SLUstainability: Village Energy Efficiency Competition
Housing and Residence Life, Facilities Services, and Ameren Missouri partnered to offer a unique pilot program to student residents of the Village Apartments designed to raise awareness and encourage sustainable energy consumption. The objective was to decrease usage of electricity for the combined months of January, February, March and April of 2011 as compared to the past three-year average. Students reduced their energy usage by 49, 594 Kilowatt hour (kWh). Ameren Missouri provided educational sessions and technical guidance throughout the competition.
