Does the institution formally designate sustainability courses in its standard course catalog or listings?:

A brief description of the formal sustainability course designation program, including the methodology used to identify and approve courses for inclusion:

Saint Joseph’s College uses a two-tiered designation system to identify sustainability-focused courses and sustainability-related course sections. The guidelines are based on *AASHE’s recommendations and **STARS recognition. Courses are designated in the course catalog and can be easily identified both in the course listing and course descriptions. The catalog is available online and can be viewed by both current and prospective students: http://catalog.sjcme.edu/content.php?catoid=31&navoid=1019

Sustainability-Focused (SF)
AASHE guideline: “…a course in which the primary and explicit focus is on sustainability and/or on understanding or solving one or more major sustainability challenge.”
Sustainability-Related (SR)
AASHE guideline: “…a course that includes sustainability that is primarily focused on a topic other than sustainability, but incorporates a unit or module on sustainability or a sustainability challenge, includes one or more sustainability- focused activities, or integrates sustainability issues throughout the course.”

* The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education
** Sustainability Tracking and Recognition System

Faculty are given the College's definition of sustainability and self-report which designation, if any, their courses carry. The catalog is continuously updated for accuracy.
