A brief description of the technology used:
The vending machines contain a motion sensor which allows the machine to switch into the energy conserving sleep mode if nobody is around. The machines also contain a sensor that electronically notifies the supplier when the product supply is low. This prevents the vendor from needing to drive to the site to manually check the supply, thus reducing fossil fuel combustion.
