A brief description of how the institution ensures compliance with green building design and construction guidelines and policies:
The operations/building staff have adapted and made numerous energy efficient upgrades since the last STARS assessment. Since then the LIC building (LEED GOLD-certified) has also been built.
The operations/building staff work with the Office of Sustainability to meet and discuss how to improve and upgrade in accordance with green practices. All of the staff are very aware of procedures and environmentally friendly practices and ethics through training and by working with companies that practice such green standards. Staff try to re-use as many materials as possible and ensure that consulting companies hired have the same vision of sustainability.
As for compliance , there is no "policing" system, however, the staff are educated and work to achieve the projections of the campus's strategic plan.
Custodians are trained to use micro-fibre cloths, no chemicals to clean surfaces and the clothes are cleaned with high temperature wash to kill germs.
Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Due to the history of our campus many buildings weren't constructed for the purpose of a university/classroom/office.
Historically, this was a family estate. A few of the current buildings have been converted from stables. The property then became a military college and in 1995 RRU was founded as a university.
