A brief description of the institution’s methodology for evaluating employee satisfaction:
Royal Roads University takes an active interest in the satisfaction of their employees by conducting an employee satisfaction survey. Through this survey, employees are engaged in job satisfaction which helps Royal Roads University gauge their performance as an employer and can also be used as a tool to identify strengths and areas which require further development.
As endorsed by the Board of Governors in the 2009 Five-year Strategic Direction Plan, a goal of Royal Roads University is for high quality, cost effective education and applied research that contributes to economic prosperity, social advancement, and environmental sustainability by responding to the needs of working professionals and their employers. This is seen through the use of surveys conducted through Hewlitt-Packer which received a high satisfaction rate from students, alumni and employers which directly reflects the performance of the staff at Royal Roads. Another goal of the Five-year Strategic Plan is a generative work culture. The object of this goal is to hold a working environment and organizational culture which is distinguished by, promotes, and nurtures in the following qualities of Royal Roads University’s people and practices:

• Responsive, flexible, and innovative
• Diversity
• Innovation and individual development
As endorsed by the Board of Governors in the Five-year Strategic Direction Plan, the measures and targets set for Royal Roads University are completed through Cultural Values Assessments and employee alignment processes. Cultural Values Assessments are a set baseline linked to the 2008 Hewitt Employee Engagement Survey and set year over year improvement targets by 2010 – 2011. The employee alignment process is 100% completed each year and conducts a qualitative assessment of employee development. According to the Five-year Strategic Plan current employee retention has been evaluated at 85%, and reported absenteeism is <2.5% .
