Institution-wide coordination
A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
Garrett Broad, Ph.D. Provost's Fellow for Sustainability hosted the Rowan University Sustainability Council kickoff event on Thur. Jan. 16, 2025. The session was attended by over 40 of Rowan's community of administrative, faculty, staff, and students participating in working groups.
The goal of the event is to continue the build-out of the Rowan University Sustainability Council (RUSC). The purpose of the RUSC is to serve as the primary vehicle for the coordination, advancement, and tracking of sustainability activities and policies across the university and campus community. A key initial task for the RUSC will be the development of a "Sustainability and Climate Action Plan." The Action plan will identify existing sustainability-related efforts; set a mix of short-term (1-2 year), medium-term (3-5 year), and long-term (5-10+ year) measurable goals; and lay out concrete steps to accomplish these goals via collaborations across the academic, operations, and community engagement sectors.
