The Departmental Research collection for each college or school is the place for faculty and affiliated researchers to archive scholarship that the publisher allows to be deposited in full text and made publicly available, either in the form of Open Access content or author accepted manuscripts. It is our policy not to include citations that consist of links only, because links do not result in download statistics.

APC fund

Does the institution provide an open access article processing charge (APC) fund for employees?:
Yes

A brief description of the open access APC fund:

The OA Publishing Fund is now accepting applications from CMSRU, SOM and Glassboro Faculty. Go to: OAble Login to apply. Select the "Rowan University Researcher Login" link towards the bottom of the page. Faculty authors may apply for up to $3000 to help offset Article Processing Charges (APC) charged by some journals. Manuscripts accepted for publication in qualified fully open access peer-reviewed journals, where all content is immediately available to all readers at no cost, are eligible. Please note that these funds cannot be used for hybrid journals where fee payment can make otherwise restricted works accessible. Application for funds should be made after acceptance by an eligible journal but prior to any APC payment.

Open access journal hosting

Does the institution provide open access journal hosting services through which peer-reviewed open access journals are hosted on local servers with dedicated staff who provide publishing support at no (or minimal) cost?:
Yes

A brief description of the open access journal hosting services:

Rowan University Libraries strive to leverage their position as part of a growing university and a research institution to contribute to and shape the future of open access.

We provide:

  • Individual Support – Librarians can help researchers navigate author rights and open access funding agency requirements, help assign Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to scholarly publications and research objects, aid in identifying reputable open access journals and avoiding predatory journals, and assist in depositing a researcher’s work in the institutional repository (Rowan Digital Works) or in discipline-specific repositories.

  • Open Access Publishing Fund – Tenure-track and tenured faculty at the Glassboro campus may apply to the Open Access Publishing Fund when publishing in a gold open access journal. More information about the policy and eligibility criteria can be found at https://rdw.rowan.edu/oa_pubfund/

  • Training and Education – Through one-on-one consultation, outreach, and workshops, librarians generate awareness of the benefits of OA for researchers and the communities they serve.

  • Self-Archiving Support – Rowan University Libraries provides our community with access to Rowan Digital Works, an open access platform to disseminate the research, scholarship, and creative works created by Rowan researchers. This platform hosts Rowan’s theses & dissertations and other student scholarship, as well as conference proceedings, datasets, videos, and more. Rowan Digital Works also offers a platform to host and publish open access journals [e.g. Cooper Rowan Medical Journal and Rowan Osteopathic Medical Journal].

  • Institutional Memberships – We have secured institutional memberships with open access publishers and organizations that advocate, develop, and advance open access and open infrastructure.
