Does the institution have an ongoing program that offers incentives for academic staff in multiple disciplines or departments to develop new sustainability courses and/or incorporate sustainability into existing courses? :
A brief description of the incentive program(s):
Rowan has the program to incentivize incorporating sustainability into courses across disciplines that is called the “Rowan Center for Responsible Leadership Teaching Fellowship” program. A recent program that has all the necessary aspects to meet which will help the students, staff and the community partners is the ‘RCRL Teaching Fellows Program’ that basically will be developing ‘learning modules’, which will particularly be focusing on the discussion of one single question, issue, or concept which is necessary for the people doing the course.
A brief description of the incentives that academic staff who participate in the program(s) receive:
Under these “Learning Modules” Rowan provides fellowship, and training, recruit the fellowship students as a teacher, and the applicants receive a stipend of $1000 for their participation. Moving on to the incentives that the academic staff who participate in the program receive, the people participating in it will have a recognition of their own if their projects clearly articulate the requirements and the applications are also open to both tenure track and non-tenure track faculties which explains that it is a very opportunistic program for anyone interested. The strongest projects will also feature an interdisciplinary team.
