1.1 Coordinating committee, officer, or office for sustainability

Our sustainability committee consists of the Sustainability program manager, the Directors of the Social Impact Hub, members of our facilities and grounds teams, faculty of the Public Health Masters, members of our dining services team, and members of our residential life team. This committee meets on a semester basis to identify areas of growth on campus for sustainable intervention.

The sustainability officer is the same as our Sustainability Coordinator. While the primary focus of this role is engage students with sustainability initiatives on campus, the sustainability coordinator also field ideas and requests for all campus members on how to improve sustainability on campus. They work collaboratively with many departments, including our Greenhouse teams, Grounds Management Team, Facilities Team, Dining Services, Office of Student Success and Retention, the campus Wellness Center, and many more to improve sustainable management practices and identify areas of needed impacts, both for students and institutional management.

There is one Sustainability Office on campus that has a main focus on student engagement with sustainability initiatives on campus, but also will provide insights on how we can make the institution as a whole more sustainable.

Narrative outlining the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
One major accomplishment in the previous three years is the unveiling of our pollinator garden in 2024, which helped us obtain our “Bee Campus USA” designation. We also have strengthened our partnership with the commuter assistance program “Rethink Your Commute”, which helped us gain a “Best College for Commuters” designation in for 2025. Additionally in 2025 so far, we have affirmed our affiliation with the Earth Charter International, to give our students more sustainability learning opportunities and help spread their mission of “building a just, sustainable, and peaceful global society, emphasizing respect for nature, human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace”.
