A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):

The RWU wellness program is unique in that it is not solely an HR-driven initiative. For over 15 years we have partnered with our Athletics department to plan and execute a campus wide wellness program, called “Simply Wellness”. Over the years it has grown and changed with the times so that now we have a wellness delivered through a robust platform with Virgin Pulse. It includes targeted programs delivered in fun, easy to use and understand programs, such as “Journeys” where the participant selects an activity to work on; such as adding exercise to their day, targeting back pain relief, adding mindfulness to their routine. Attached is information about our program and below is a link to our wellness website: https://www.rwu.edu/life-at-rwu/recreation-fitness

Full and part time employees are automatically enrolled in our Employee Assistance Program through New Directions. The program includes up to 4 on line or on the phone sessions with a qualified and licensed mental health professional. These sessions are for any family member or an individual living in the employee’s home. If additional assistance is needed, then the individual is provided a list of professionals with whom they can make an appointment. In addition to mental health counseling, there is legal assistance, resource sourcing (i.e. day or adult care providers, summer camps, etc.) and employee training sessions on a variety of topics. The most recent session was about returning to work post-COVID. The session offered practical tips and discussed fears and concerns an individual might have about working in person; dealing with children whose school had different COVID policies, etc.

The Student Counseling Center oversees the mental health of all our students across two campuses. Staffed by trained clinicians, the Center manages a robust range of services. As part of the Center, RWU also offers a Post-Graduate program where clinicians complete their educational requirements by working at the Center.
