A brief description of the post-consumer food waste composting program:
The RMCAD composting program utilizes a company by the name of Waste Farmers (http://www.wastefarmers.com/composting/) to provide a program that uses a secure, contained storage approach. Waste Farmers provides RMCAD with leak-proof, covered containers and provides free training to our employees. They provide a pick-up schedule that minimizes the amount of time that organic material is stored on the RMCAD campus and they clean the containers before returning them to the RMCAD collection site.
Through Waste Farmers RMCAD composts the post-consumer food waste from the campus Underground Café and two office kitchens in the Texas and Robinson buildings. Items composted via Waste Farmers are:
All food scraps, kitchen trimmings, plate scrapings, coffee grounds and filters, tea bags, meat, bones, fish, dairy products and baked goods.
Food-soiled paper. Paper cups and plates, placemats, milk cartons, waxed cardboard food and beverage boxes, napkins and paper towels.
