A brief description of how the student educators are selected (1st program):

Chairs of each department nominate one student educator per department. The nominations are based upon grade point average and level of engagement in academic and extracurricular activities at RMCAD, as well as an active commitment to environmental responsibility. The Eco Reps then develop an outreach program for their peers and a second for an underserved K-12 class, this outreach program then culminates in an Art for Sky (http://www.inconcertwithnature.com/) project utilizing the RMCAD and K-12 students as medium for the art.

A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive (1st program):

Student educators choose one environmental/sustainability topic per year and are advised by RMCAD staff/faculty team in the development of this program. This development includes setting goals, objectives and strategies for their outreach program, how to develop the message, define the audience, how to address and engage the intended audience, an entire communication and marketing program, peer to peer engagement and K-12 community engagement, culminating art project scope and deliverables, organizing and coordinating logistics of the art project and participants in the project.

A brief description of the staff and/or other financial support the institution provides to the program (1st program):

Once their topic is chosen the students then work with the VP of Campus Planning, the Sustainability Coordinator, the Director of the Institute for Sustainable Studies, the Director of Student Life, RMCAD Marketing Department, Department Chairs and College Deans to develop an educational outreach program on their selected topic. The Eco Rep Program is provided a base budget from the Institute for Sustainable Studies, if the student plan exceeds that budget they are responsible for submitting a proposal to other departments for additional funding and/or other fundraising options.
