One of Student Government’s largest committees, the Sustainability committee helps look at ways to increase sustainable actions on RIT’s campus. Some of their current charges include:
*Ethical and sustainable purchasing guidelines for the university.
*Integrating more plant-based options into menus.
*Coordinating with Dining Services to increase compostable and reusable utensils and containers.

• Completed 2 ghg inventories of RIT’s food supply,
• Hosted the 2019 State of NY Sustainability Conference,
• Secured a $1 million Energy to Lead grant from NYS,
• Partnership with RIT 365 (required course for all incoming freshmen),
• Established a sustainable office certification
• Established a Student Sustainability Ambassador program

Reporting to the Senior Sustainability Advisor to the President, the Asst Director of Campus Sustainability will work with faculty, staff and students to advance sustainability within all divisions of the university and in the community. The Asst Director of Campus Sustainability will steward existing programs like Goodbye, Goodbuy!, while pioneering new efforts to realize RIT’s goal of being a living laboratory for sustainability education, research and operations. The Asst Director of Campus Sustainability is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of campus sustainability initiatives, internal and external communications, sustainability reporting and metrics.

Lead and develop new programs, to engage staff, faculty, and students in RIT’s sustainability efforts and conservation goals. Establish program metrics, verify and report effectiveness of programs. Ensure alignment of programming with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Ensure the strategic implementation and success of the Climate Action Plan. Manage RIT Sustainability’s communication platforms including: website content, newsletter development, gRIT listserv, social media, and general sustainability inquiries, as well as recycling concerns.

Provide administrative support to the sustainability office and the trustee committee on strategic planning including but not limited to meeting and event coordination, data collection and reporting, and budget tracking and reconciliation. Perform data collection and reporting for STARS and other sustainability recognition programs. Coordinate logistics for sustainability outreach programs on campus, including but not limited to speakers, events, workshops etc. Provide administrative support to sustainability office including oversight of Goodbye, Goodbuy! and other sustainability programs, training and reporting. Monitor, reconcile and maintain sustainability budget. Supports tracking and reporting for current and future grants.
