A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level:
RIT has presented to the County Legislature on RIT’s climate efforts encouraging the County to develop a Climate Action Plan. An RIT staff member serves on the county’s Recycling Advisory Committee and the City of Rochester’s advisory committee for its climate Action plan, vulnerability assessment and adaptation plans.

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the state/provincial/regional level:
Several RIT staff members serve on the Regional Economic development council’s sustainability committee. RIT Sustainability and RIT’s Government relations team have worked together to advocate with the State on changes made to renewable energy regulations, particularly how REC’s were being handled in the state. We worked with a handful of other universities and organizations on this issue through the Coalition of Renewable Energy users (CORE). RIT has also actively participated in State feedback sessions for the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.

RIT is a signatory of “We Are Still in” as well as the President’s Climate Leadership Commitment hosted by Second Nature, which advocate on behalf of its member institutions.
