A brief description of the socially responsible investment option for retirement plans:
Eligible employees of the Maricopa Community College District can participate in a tax sheltered retirement program under section 403(b) of the Internal Revenue Code. A tax sheltered annuity (TSA) is a retirement savings program through systematic salary reduction. It allows employees to set aside a portion of their salary on a pre-tax basis, thus "sheltering" contributions from current federal and state taxation. Several of the vendors, including Valic and TIAA-CREF, offer investment options that give special consideration to companies’ environmental, social and governance (ESG) records and those designated as “socially conscious” funds.
