The long-term goals of the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) Climate Action Plan are to reduce emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and to ultimately become carbon – neutral.

A brief summary of the climate plan’s short-term goals:
Rio Salado College’s Climate Action Plan contains many short-term goals, which are intended to lead to realization of the long-term goal. These short-term goals include:
•Establishing an institutional structure to guide the development and implementation of the Climate Action Plan
•Complete annual GHG inventory audits
•Purchase or produce 15% of consumed electricity from renewable resources
•Encourage the use of public transportation and carpooling for staff and students
•Improve solid waste recycling efforts
•Reduce lighting energy usage
•Increase number of alternative energy – hybrid or electric – vehicles in the college fleet.
