A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability, including the issues, bills, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:
One of Richland’s longtime Emeritus students, Pete Shannon, was actively involved in representing Richland College and the northeast Dallas area in the development of the city of Dallas master bike plan. Mr. Shannon coordinated with Richland Facilities Services as he worked with the city of Dallas and was instrumental in ensuring that the college bike plan integrates well with the city master plan.
Richland has also hosted the Dallas City Council for a public meeting on the college’s and the city’s green initiatives. Council members learned about the strong commitment of both organizations to further campus and city sustainability, knowledge intended to inform policy and decision-making.
