A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:
Richland College partners with TXU-Energy to grow trees for parks and other public spaces in Dallas County. Richland provides acreage on its campus grounds for the TXU Urban Tree Farm.
Richland also partners with The Family Gateway Center, a shelter for homeless families in Dallas County. Richland students in accounting, economics, and human development classes at Richland apply what they've learned about causes, consequences, and alternatives to poverty in their courses to develop and implement a service learning project at the Family Gateway Center. Students gain knowledge and experience about social equity while Gateway families get support and assistance from Richland students.
Richland also partners with Dallas Water Utilities to provide Dallas citizens with water conservation strategies. Richland hosts the annual Water Conservation Seminar at the college and provides technical and security staff.
