A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:

Above and beyond Richland’s comprehensive program for reducing and diverting waste, Richland was able to significantly expand its Facilities Services area by recycling what would have been construction waste from other projects. Most notably, Richland recycled a 30 year old modular classroom structure made up of six 24' X 60' independent sections which totaled 8,640 sq. ft. This move in 2009, made way for expansion of an adjacent permanent structure. These six structures were separated and moved about 100 yards to become six separate shops. Known collectively as 'The Shops at Pecos', these remodeled modular structures now house building maintenance, custodial/classroom furniture, central supply, etc., around a central vehicle yard. Additionally, 132.2 tons of roof gravel from a re-roofing project on seven campus buildings was recycled as roadway material in the vehicle yard and other campus locations in 2009-10. The replacement roofs all utilized white reflective coating and gravel.
