A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:
Rice has partnered with a number of local organizations, including the Houston Farmers Market, Urban Harvest, Hermann Park Conservancy, Houston Tomorrow, Rice Design Alliance, and Project Row Houses. Additionally, through the Center for Civic Engagement Summer Fellows program, Rice has partnered with the Texas Medical Center Sustainability Advisory Council, Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children Hospital, Medical Bridges, Technology for All, St. Luke’s Episcopal Health Charities, and the Clear Lake City Water Authority. A relationship between Rice, the City of Houston, and the Environmental Defense Fund, for example, resulted in a study of the effectiveness of Houston's weatherization program for low-income homeowners, which analyzed the factors leading people to decide whether or not to participate.
