A brief description of co-generation technologies deployed:
Rice's purchased electricity is supplemented by two on-campus natural gas fueled co-generation plants. Imported power from Reliant accounts for between one-half and two-thirds of our total electricity consumption, with the remainder generated by the co-generation system. The plants use waste heat generated to produce campus steam and chilled water for heating/cooling purposes.
