A brief description of the institution's stormwater management initiatives:

Red River College uses swales to direct stormwater runoff.

Our Heavy Equipment Transportation Centre has controlled flow roof drainge to reduce the rate of flow of water leaving the site. Plantings around the building absorb stormwater. Combined, these measures reduce the volume of water entering storm sewers by 27% (compared to a reference building).

The Roblin Centre has a 20' x 60' section of greenroof. The roof is covered with native plants and requires minimal maintenance. The Green Roof is one of the stops along the Roblin Centre's Green Building Tour.

A 300' x 300' crane training pad was recently constructed. Recycled asphalt was used for the topping. This material controls dust and has porous properties.

Rainwater is collected from the roof of our Greenhouse and Landscape Construction shop. It's stored in a 3000 gallon tank and used to waste the plants in the Greenhouse.
