A brief description of the institution’s community garden:
The Randolph College Organic Garden is a great resource for the Randolph College community. The Organic Garden is a living classroom used during the organic gardening physical education class offered twice a year. The garden includes a large section that is divided by plots which can be used by students, faculty, staff, and members of the local community. The community garden using sustainable agricultural practices such as natural pest management solutions, use of rain barrels, and community composting. There are always opportunities for students to conduct research in the garden, have an internship experience, and work as a student assistant. The organic garden is also home to our flock of chickens which help provide fresh eggs to the Randolph College Food Pantry. The chicken manure is also used to fertilize the organic garden beds as well. The Organic Garden also provides fresh organic produce and herbs to the Food Pantry in order to help provide access to fresh food in the community.
