A brief description of the incentive program(s):
The Radford University "Sustainability Across Curriculum" workshop is for all interested faculty from all disciplines. The goal of the workshop is to inspire and assist in revising existing or creating new curriculum to include sustainability components and/or learning outcomes.
The 1-day workshop explores how we can meaningfully integrate sustainability – broadly defined – into the classroom. We take a close look at Radford and the New River Valley and then invite participants to engage in local/global comparisons. RU faculty and staff and a few guest speakers facilitate and catalyze discussion of sustainability in curriculum and its integration and role in the broader community.
For this workshop, sustainability in curriculum means: This course teaches students about sustainability – about how meeting current needs does not sacrifice future well-being as it pertains to natural systems, human communities, and economic welfare”.

A brief description of the incentives that academic staff who participate in the program(s) receive:
Participants receive an honorarium of $250 for attending the workshop and revising/developing curriculum. The stipend is awarded when participants submit a progress report on their curriculum revision.

Josh Nease attended the AASHE Sustainability Across Curriculum workshop in January 2017 and returned to campus and organized the workshop later that semester. In the 2019 and 2021 workshops the Sustainability Office closely collaborated with RU's Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning to deliver the program.
