"---" indicates that no data was submitted for this field

Total campus area:
750 Acres

Figures required to calculate the total area of managed grounds:
Area (double-counting is not allowed)
Area managed organically, without the use of inorganic fertilizers and chemical pesticides, fungicides and herbicides 40 Acres
Area managed in accordance with an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program that uses selected chemicals only when needed 0 Acres
Area managed using conventional, chemical-based landscape management practices 355 Acres
Total area of managed grounds 395 Acres

If the total area of managed grounds is less than the total campus area, provide:

A brief description of any land excluded from the area of managed grounds:

Buildings and impervious surfaces (parking lots) not included (300 acres). Turf/planted areas only. Athletic fields included.

Organic program

Percentage of grounds managed organically:
10.13

If reporting an organic program, provide:

A brief description of the organic landscape management program:

Small areas of the campus are considered wetlands or naturalized areas that do not receive any chemical treatment or mowing. Additionally, forested areas do not receive chemical treatment or mowing. These areas are minimally maintained, but are otherwise left alone. These parcels total approximately 40 acres of organic management.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program

Percentage of grounds managed in accordance with an IPM program:
0

If reporting an IPM program, provide:

A copy of the IPM plan or program:
---

A brief description of the IPM program:

The areas that have an IPM program also receive conventional herbicides and therefore could not be double counted for the IPM section (this is why IPM grounds are 0%)

Insecticide applications (Green Areas): Surface insect treatments will be monitored and treated as needed. White grubs will be monitored, and spot treated in late summer as needed.

Optional Fields

A brief description of the institution's approach to plant stewardship:

Quinnipiac has been designated as a Tree Campus by the Arbor Day Foundation.

To obtain the Tree Campus designation, Quinnipiac meets the five core standards for sustainable campus forestry required by Tree Campus Higher Education.

These standards include:

  1. The establishment of a tree advisory committee
  2. Evidence of a campus tree-care plan
  3. Dedicated annual expenditures for a campus tree program
  4. An annual Arbor Day observance
  5. Sponsorship of student service learning projects.

Quinnipiac is proud of this achievement and pledges a sustained commitment to environmental stewardship.

Goals for Quinnipiac as a Tree Campus

Some of the goals of the Tree Campus Higher Education initiative are:

  • Reducing the amount of energy our campus and community generates.
  • Planting more trees to help absorb carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which will help mitigate the effects of climate change.
  • Improving mental health benefits for students and employees, and encouraging physical activity.
  • Assist in providing tree-related service-learning projects for students to help educate the next generation about the importance of caring for the environment.
