Research Inventory
Inventory of the institution’s sustainability research:
A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:
We used a comprehensive list of research undertaken by faculty in our business school as a sample for this report. The business school contains 9 of the 36 departments at the university as a whole (and 35 of the total 233 research-active faculty at the university); faculty in the business school are required to be research-active. An examination of the research reported in 2023 and 2024 was undertaken; it was determined that seven of the 35 faculty had undertaken research identifiable as sustainability-related.
As a check on our use of this data set as a sample for reporting purposes, we had our librarian run a search of all published research undertaken by our faculty institution-wide over the past 2 years that had been tagged with one of the seventeen sustainable development goals. This turned out to be an inexact method: at a university with a medical school and many programs that prepare professionals disciplines related to human health and wellbeing, there was a lot of scholarship picked up in this method that was only tangentially sustainability-related. Similarly, much of the scholarship across the university that addressed issues related to diversity, gender, race, and inclusion were also picked up using this method.
Nevertheless, a review of this data set gave us confidence that the School of Business results are generalizeable to the University as a whole, where 233 of our total 401 full time faculty are expected to be research active. The School of Business data set is included above.
