SFS-Costa Rica: Sustainable Development Studies:

A semester in Costa Rica where students will design and conduct a rigorous field research project and learn how Costa Ricans are creatively addressing conservation and development issues. Students gain practical skills in the field including GIS use and applications, species identification, habitat and biodiversity assessment, forest soundscape techniques, songbird mist-netting, tourism impact assessment methods, basic Spanish language skills, research design and implementation, quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, and research presentation. Additionally, the experience will include exploring the cloud forests of Monteverde to study tropical ecology and sustainable land management and a behind the scenes visit to a local coffee farm and sustainable permaculture homestead to learn how Costa Ricans have successfully combined agriculture and conservation.

SEA Semester: Environmental Studies at Sea:

Since 1971, SEA has equipped students with the tools to become environmentally literate leaders prepared to address the defining issue of the twenty-first century: the human impact on the environment.
