2019 Ameren Illinois Innovator Award
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
In 2019, Principia College was award a competitive "Innovator Award" for our remodel of a field house that had been vacant for many years into a modern, multi-functional performing arts center. This is a great model of building reuse and repurpose. “Extending the life cycle of existing building stock, conserves resources, reduces waste and reduces the environmental impacts of new buildings as they relate to materials manufacturing and transport” (USGBC). In extending the life of this existing historic building, we have used the latest technology to make the building more energy efficient, comfortable, and functional – ensuring its usefulness for many decades to come.
