A brief description of the institution’s methodology for evaluating employee satisfaction and engagement:

The Trustee Ad Hoc Committee on Diversity, as charged by President Tilghman in January 2012, as a component of its work, explored the quality of the employee experience at Princeton. In support of this effort, in partnership the Office of the Provost and the Office of Human Resources administered confidential online surveys in October 2012. Questions spanned the following topics as examples -
• Contentment with overall work experience
• Satisfaction with the work itself
• Princeton University and its leadership
• Diversity and inclusion
• Health, safety, and physical conditions
• Respectful treatment
• One’s immediate manager(s)
• One’s department
• Communications
• Teamwork
• Reward and recognition for high quality performance
• Performance management
• Compensation, benefits, and job security
• Professional development and advancement opportunities


A brief description of the mechanism(s) by which the institution addresses issues raised by the evaluation (including examples from the previous three years):

Following the survey, customized results by unit were created, distributed and reviewed with each senior leader and in many instances, their leadership teams. Action was then taken within the units to address their specific results where they placed priority for improvements.
