14.1 Percentage of students and employees using more sustainable commuting options
Full-time equivalent student enrollment:
Full-time equivalent of employees:
Has the institution gathered data about student commuting behavior?:
Percentage of students that use more sustainable commuting options:
Description of the methodology used to gather data about student commuting:
In the November 2024 Student Sustainability Survey, we assessed a representative group of students about their commuting habits, asking, "What is your primary mode of transportation for commuting to class?" The options presented included:
- Single-occupancy vehicle
- Walking
- Cycling
- Carpool
- Motorbike
- Zero emissions vehicle
- Remote learning (no commute)
We summed the number of students who chose any option other than a single-occupancy vehicle and found that 84.5% used more sustainable commuting options. This high percentage makes sense in our context because most of our population is exclusively enrolled in distance education (see PRE-3: Institutional Characteristics).
Has the institution gathered data about employee commuting behavior?:
Percentage of employees that use more sustainable commuting options:
Description of the methodology used to gather data about employee commuting:
In the November 2024 Employee Sustainability Survey, we assessed a representative group of employees about their commuting habits, asking, "What is your primary mode of transportation for commuting to work?" The options presented included:
- Single-occupancy vehicle
- Walking
- Cycling
- Carpool
- Motorbike
- Zero emissions vehicle
- Remote work (no commute)
We summed the number of employees who chose any option other than a single-occupancy vehicle and found that 56.6% used more sustainable commuting options. This higher percentage makes sense in our context as employees are offered hybrid options to work or to be exclusively remote, depending on the job.
