Czuprynski Sustainability Coordinator Green Mountain Center for Sustainablity |
Name of the innovative outcome, program, or initiative:
Does the innovation represent a new, extraordinary, unique, ground-breaking, or uncommon outcome, program, or initiative that addresses a sustainability challenge and is not covered by an existing credit?:
Narrative and/or website URL providing an overview of the innovation:
Prescott College is involved with the Slow Food Snail of Approval program to evaluate local producers, restaurants, bars, farmers markets, and other food system agents on good, clean, and fair food principles. These constituents are evaluated in six categories: sourcing, environmental impact, cultural connection, community involvement, staff support, and business values. Our Sustainability Coordinator is a Snail of Approval team member in Prescott, Arizona. This involves soliciting applications for the program, conducting interviews, performing site visits, and evaluating the applicants on their overall alignment with Slow Food values, practices, and principles. Since January 2024, four applications have been processed, and two food actors have been awarded the Snail of Approval for exceptional practices in food systems transformations.
While other schools are involved in the Slow Food Movement, few (if any) are involved in the Snail of Approval program. Prescott College supports this program by providing expertise in evaluating the good, clean, and fair values in the local food system while raising public awareness for the Snail of Approval program.
